FEATURESShanghai Modern, A Photographic EssayLois Conner
The New York-based photographer Lois Conner has been working in China since the early 1980s. She first visited Shanghai in 1984. The following is a small selection of work that she has made in the port city over the years. We previously published some of Conner’s work on the eve of the 2008 Beijing Olympics (‘Beijing Reconstructs: the Photographs of Lois Conner’), as well as in our December 2006 issue on the Garden of Perfect Brightness (‘A Photographer in the Garden’), and the September 2009 issue that introduced T’ien Hsia to our readers. We are grateful for her kind generosity in allowing us to feature her work again.—The Editor.
